“Rose Finnigan, will you marry me?” asked Sirius.
Tears filled Rose’s eyes, those beautiful blue eyes. She nodded, “YES! Yes, yes, yes, I love you Sirius.”
He slipped the ring on her finger, got up and kissed her. He had never felt such joy. They embraced for a long time. Then someone apparated nearby, it was Remus. He looked worried.
“Sirius, Severus just got back. He’s after the Potters. Dumbledore wants to see us, now,” said Remus.
Sirius nodded and looked back at Rose. She kissed him and nodded, mouthing “go”. Her eyes said she’d wait. He gave her one last kiss and apparated with Remus to the headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix.
When they got there Sirius said, “Leave it to Voldemort to ruin the perfect proposal.”
Remus looked at him, “You proposed?”
Sirius nodded.
“And she said yes?”
Sirius nodded.
They came into a room where Albus Dumbledore, Lily, Harry and James Potter, Minerva McGonagall, and Peter Pettigrew were sitting. They all smiled in welcome and Sirius sat down. He looked at Remus who was smiling broadly, despite the fact his best friends were in serious danger was the reason they were all there.
Remus began to speak, “Before we get started with other things, I would like to make an announcement. Our good friend Sirius is getting married to his beloved Rose. He asked her tonight. Actually I sort of walked in on her saying yes.”
There were congratulations all around and Remus sat down. Sirius was still smiling that goofy smile he’d had on since Rose said yes. Dumbledore looked around and spoke.
“You all know why we are here. James, Lily and Harry are in grave danger because of a prophecy heard by ears that were not meant to hear it. Unfortunately the spy did not hear all of the prophecy, which has caused Voldemort to think he must kill young Harry. This puts the whole Potter family in danger. The best way to protect them would be to perform a Fidelius Charm. I trust you all know how it works,” there were nods all around. Harry cried a bit and Lily soothed him quickly, Dumbledore continued, “All you have to do is pick who you wish to be your Secret-Keeper.”
James and Lily responded at the same time, almost immediately, “Sirius.”
Minerva looked at them over her square glasses, “I think it would be in your best interest to choose Albus as your Secret-Keeper. We know someone close to you is leaking information to the enemy.” No one noticed Peter shift uncomfortably at theses words. “Don’t take any risks. Besides, the enemy knows how close you are to Sirius, He will be the first person You-Know-Who will guess and come after.”
James shook his head, “We trust Sirius with anything. He too can go into hiding. It will work.” Lily nodded in agreement.
Dumbledore got up and said, “It seems there is no persuading you to change your mind. Professor Flitwick is waiting outside. We will perform the charm together, as soon as you’re ready will begin.” He walked out.
